What happens if I run out of data before the plan ends?

Running out of data before the validity time of your prepaid plan is fairly common especially if you stream videos, work online, or access your social networks regularly. Indian telecom operators have made handling the inconvenience of running out of data simple enough that you can continue to stay connected with little hassle.

When you run out of your high-speed data, here is what normally happens:

  • Reduced Speed: Many of these plans automatically reduce your internet speed to a basic level that often runs about 64 kbps. As such, you can still browse, check emails, or respond to messages; streaming anything or downloading larger files is very difficult.
  • No Data Access: Some plans completely lock out your data services card once you exhaust your quota. In this case you will not have access to the internet until you recharge.
  • Data Top-Up: To get high-speed internet back you must buy a data top-up or booster pack. You can purchase these on your operator's website, your mobile app, or at an authorised retail outlet. Once you recharge, your high speed data will be reinstated immediately and will remain active for the balance of the plan validity period or as specified by the top-up.

By tracking your data usage and knowing how to top-up quickly, you will be able to ensure that you will have internet availability when it is needed. This helps avoid costly interruptions and will allow you to stay on the digital highway.
