Who is not eligible for Atal Pension Yojana scheme?

The following categories of citizens are not eligible for the Atal Pension Yojana:
- Citizens who are over 40 years of age. APY is open only to those between 18 and 40 years of age.
- Citizens who have already availed retirement benefits under the Employees' Provident Fund or any other pension scheme.
- Citizens who are already receiving pension benefits from their employers.
- From 1st October 2022, any citizen who is or has been an income taxpayer at any point is not eligible for APY.
- Corporate entities like companies, trusts, etc., are not eligible for enrollment under APY.
- If a subscriber is found to have been an income taxpayer before joining APY after 1 October 2022, their account will be closed, and the accumulated pension wealth will be returned. The government co-contribution will not be returned in such cases.
