BBPS or Bharat Bill Payment System is a centralised bill payment service introduced by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). It allows you to pay your utility bills and other recurring payments from a single platform.
To initiate a bill payment on BBPS, follow these steps:
- Register with your bank/payment app that supports BBPS by providing basic details and verifying via OTP.
- Log in to the bank’s website or app and navigate to the BBPS or bill payment section.
- Select the biller category and biller (e.g., electricity, mobile).
- Enter your customer/account ID to fetch the bill details.
- Verify the bill amount and proceed to payment.
- Choose your preferred payment mode (net banking, UPI, cards, wallets).
- Complete the payment via the payment gateway.
- Receive instant confirmation and digital receipt via SMS/email and in transaction history.
Key Notes:
- A convenience fee may apply for some billers
- Payments via BBPS usually get credited instantly
- The transaction limit per biller is typically ₹5,000 to ₹10,000
By centralising bill payments across sectors, BBPS makes monthly bill payments efficient. Instead of visiting multiple biller websites, you can pay all bills from one platform.
