Is there any transaction limit for making payments using BBPS?

BBPS itself does not impose a fixed limit on the number or amount of bill payments a user can make; however, limits may be applied by banks, payment apps, or billers

Factors Influencing Limits

However, there could be certain limits enforced based on:

  • The financial institution or bank account used: Most banks set daily transaction limits for net banking, which apply to BBPS payments as well.
  • The BBPS-enabled website or app used: Third-party apps such as Google Pay, Amazon Pay, and PhonePe that support BBPS may enforce their own transaction limits, which can vary by daily, weekly, or monthly caps as per their policies.
  • The biller for whom the payment is being made: Some utility companies and financial institutions could define frequency or amount limits per user for bill payments to prevent fraud.

So while BBPS itself does not impose any hard limits, contributing entities in the BBPS chain may apply certain restrictions.

Users are advised to check with their financial institution and the relevant biller's website or app to determine if any transaction limits have been set that could impact BBPS payments for that bill category or user.

Provided no restrictions exist on the user’s account or bill type, BBPS enables seamless, 24/7 bill payments. Nonetheless, certain limits may be enforced as part of fraud prevention or risk management protocols.
